An emergency meeting of the Governing body of Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday expressed serious concern over non-payment of salaries to faculty members and other staff, besides the severe inconvenience caused to patients and the disruption of classes for the medical students.
The Governing Body of PIMS was of the unanimous view that urgent remedial measures are required to be taken in the matter. The Governing Body of PIMS also took note of the letter dated January 3 from the PIMS Medical and Education Charitable Society explaining the organisational changes the Society has made to strengthen its functioning and management.
The said letter stated that the process of salary disbursement to all categories of employees would be completed on January 7, 2014 and College & Hospital would start functioning normally again immediately thereafter. The Governing Body of PIMS in the interest of the Students, Faculty members, staff and the overall development of the Institute took note of the assurance given the PIMS Medical and Charitable Society to resolve all outstanding issues and unanimously decided to re-convene the Governing Body meeting on 10th January, 2014.
