Aam Aadmi Party’s MLA and senior advocate Harvinder Singh Phoolka on Thursday announced that he would submit his resignation as the member of Punjab Vidhan Sabha and all related posts on October 12, Friday.
Phoolka, who had initially set 15-day deadline for the Congress-led Punjab Government to book the former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the then state police chief Sumedh Singh Saini among other cops, in sacrilege and related firing cases for stepping down as an MLA on August 31, but later deferred his decision after the matter came under the purview of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
“I had postponed my resignation due to the stay on the proceedings by the HC. But now, it is clear that there is no stay for the Government to act against former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and the Badals, but the government did not act,” said Phoolka. He said that he was stepping down as an MLA to show protest against the inaction of Capt Amarinder Singh led Government “against the persons responsible for Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan incidents and Bargari sacrilege”.
Phoolka said that he would not be coming to Chandigarh, owing to court hearing of Tytler case in Delhi court, to submit his resignation, but would submit the same to the Election Commission of India. “I would send a copy to the Vidhaj Sabha Speaker,” he said.
Earlier, Phoolka has twice delayed his decision after a petition was filed in the sacrilege matter. High Court had stayed further proceedings against the former Senior Superintendents of Police Charanjit Singh and Raghbir Singh Sandhu, along with the then Station House Officer of Bajakhana police station Amarjit Singh “in pursuance of recommendations made by Justice Ranjit Singh Commission”.
