Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Shwait Malik on Friday asked the Congress Government to either perform or quit, instead of making “useless excuses” of severe funds crunch.
At the same time, Malik accused the Congress party of depriving the dalits from good education, and using them as their vote bank. Taking on the Congress party over the recent Phagwara clashes, Malik accused it for conspiring to put Punjab in a volatile situation.
“It is the result of political conspiracy hatched to incite caste-based clashes,” said Malik while once again reiterating the demand to set up a Special Investigation Team to probe the entire episode.
Malik, during ‘Meet the Press’ programme at Chandigarh Press Club, said: “Congress did not allow good education to the Dalits which did not allowed them to rise socially. They were only used as vote banks by the Congress.”
Also the Rajya Sabha MP from the state, Malik declared that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre is working and is committed to uplift the poor and disadvantaged sections of the society.
Mincing now words, Malik lashed out at the Congress-led Punjab Government for befooling people by making “unachievable promises” ahead of the 2017 elections including complete farm debt waiver, providing jobs, eliminating drugs in four weeks, among others.
“Congress made unachievable promises to every section be it the farmers or youngsters. But now, people are dejected with the Congress’ performance as its government has not been able to deliver and fulfill even a single promise it has made with them,” he said.
He added, “They are just making useless excuses by repeatedly saying that government coffers are empty…the development is standstill…no development work is taking place in the state.”
Malik declared that the party would soon launch a massive ‘Congress Punjab Chodo’ campaign, which would be a part of party’s ‘Punjab Bachao’ programme.
Taking on his Congress counterpart Sunil Jakhar, Punjab BJP chief dubbed him as “inaccessible”. “Jakhar is not accessible to the people of his constituency. Besides the state president, I am also an MP…I have worked in Amritsar earlier also, I am visible there, I am accessible, but where is Jakhar…he is seen nowhere,” he said.
On the saffron party’s relation with its ally, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab, Malik made it clear that the two parties would never part ways. “This alliance will fight the next lok Sabha election and win all the 13 seats,” he declared while making it clear that BJP’s alliance with SAD will continue as it has been decided by the high command.
