Perform or perish: Sukhbir to DCs

Issuing strict warning to either perform or perish, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Thursday directed all the Deputy Commissioners to reduce delays in implementation of Government schemes, ensure timely delivery of services and check corruption in their districts.

Sukhbir, addressing a meeting of DCs, also directed them to implement new mining policy strictly and enjoined them to respond to people’s grievances including web complaints forwarded to them from his office immediately.

This is not all! Directions have also been issued to the district administrative heads to ensure zero-corruption in the Government offices by getting feedback from the people.

“Every DC must forward feedback, especially on the registries done in their areas, to their Divisional Commissioners and the Chief Secretary on a daily basis,” said the Deputy Chief Minister, while directing the Divisional Commissioners and the Chief Secretary to check the reports submitted by the DCs regularly to stamp out corruption.

“I am getting a number of complaints and grievances through email and web portal feedback,” said Sukhbir while issuing instructions to the DCs to take “immediate action” on all the grievances and complaints being forwarded to them besides giving a feedback regarding their current status to his office.

Issuing instructions to reduce sand prices as per the new Mining Policy immediately, he said that DCs must “keep a vigil on sand mining as well as its distribution through Punjab Mandi Board” to ensure sand was provided to customers in a timely manner at reasonable prices.

He asked the DCs to immediately report to Chief Secretary whenever and wherever sand prices crossed the price set by them.

Reviewing the drug de-addiction program, Sukhbir asked the DCs to coordinate with district police in-charges to create congenial atmosphere for de-addicted persons to bring them back to normal life.

Sukhbir, while reviewing the implementation of social welfare schemes, directed the Food and Civil Supplies secretary to work on computerisation of distribution of wheat and pulses under Atta-Dal scheme to ensure that wheat and pulses reached the consumer in time.

Directions were also issued to the concerned secretaries and DCs to ensure that the Atta-Dal scheme, Shagun scheme, pension scheme and other social security schemes were implemented efficiently.

Besides, other significant issues of regularisation of plots and colonies, rationalisation of collector rates, pending Suvidha Centres applications and RTS applications beyond RTS deadline, relief measures on account of recent rains, water logging and floods in state, progress of solid waste management projects, computerisation of land records and implementation of e-stamping were discussed in-depth.
