To protect and increase green cover in the State, Haryana Government has urged the people of the state to plant saplings on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan this year.

Forest Minister, Rao Narbir Singh said that all siblings should celebrate this auspicious festival by planting at least two saplings, as this would help in boosting the green cover in the State.

The Forest Department has launched the ‘Gaon Chale Van Ki Ore’ campaign during the Van Mahotsava with an objective of increasing forest resources and making the state greener. A target has been set for the department to distribute about two crore saplings for plantation throughout the year. It has been decided to plant saplings along cisterns, natural ponds and ‘bainis’ in villages to make them green again, said the Minister.

A state-level Van Mahotsava function was organised in the village of Budhpur in Rewari district on July 15, which saw a large number of people resolving to make the state greener. Besides, a special tree plantation campaign was conducted after the flag hoisting ceremonies in all schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutes on the occasion of Independence Day, he said.

People also participated in the ‘Selfie with Daughter and Tree’ campaign in large numbers by posting photographs of sapling plantation on social media, he added.
