Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Thursday said that except Rohtak district, borders of all districts of Haryana are connected with other States and the pre-natal diagnostic techniques Act is not being implemented strictly in these States.
The issue would be brought to the notice of Central Government through a written communication to ensure the success of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign in the State, said the Chief Minister, while presiding over an interactive session with eminent researchers on gender issues here.
He said that Haryana Police has registered cases of violation of the Act in adjoining states namely Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan as residents of Haryana were involved. This has clearly reflected the intention of the government. A total of 177 FIRs had been lodged and court had awarded sentence in some cases, said he.
The sex ratio had reached 903 girls per 1000 boys (in December 2015), after implementation of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign in the state.
The Chief Minister urged the non-government organizations to extend their support in maintaining the continued improvement in sex ratio in the state. The State Government has decided to give the slogan of ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Bdhao, Beti Padhao’ to give impetus to this campaign, he said.
He added that that Maruti has sent a proposal to the government for setting up a women driving training centre in the State. It was after two-three months of the formation of the present State Government that the nation-wide Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign was launched from Haryana. This was taken as a challenge by his Government because the sex ratio was very alarming in the state, said Manohar lal.
He said that a special cell at CM Secretariat has been set up with Dr Yogender Malik as its advisor. Also, the Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act was being implemented in letter and spirit. He added that the sex ratio in district Sirsa was recorded as 999 per thousand boys.
The Chief Minister said that a decision has been taken to conduct mapping of all educational institutions to encourage girls towards higher education. Also, a scheme has been prepared to set up girls college in a radius of every 20 kilometers. Apart from this, the Transport Department has introduced special buses for girl students and women attendents have been deputed in these buses. So far, 44 such buses have been made operational in the state.
Describing the results of elections to Panchayati Raj Institutions as revolutionary for women, he said that Yukti Chaudhary, who had studied llM from Harvard University, has been elected in Zila Parishad elections in district Faridabad, which is a matter of great pride.
