PCC, Jakhar to discuss State's factionalism

The right hand of Punjab Congress party knows what the left is doing, but still not acting in sync.

The two power centres, within the party owing allegiance to Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa and Congress legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar, are up in arms against each other, apparent from the two separate meetings called by the two within a gap of two days to discuss the same issue.

While Bajwa has convened a meeting of senior party MlAs in Punjab Congress Bhawan on October 26 to discuss the party’s agenda for the Vidhan Sabha’s winter session, Jakhar, on the other hand, has called the ClP meeting before the beginning of the Vidhan Sabha session to chalk out the strategy for the same.

Even as the party MlAs are left perplexed on whom to follow in case two separate agendas were decided, the development has also brought forth the factionalism within the party’s state unit in the backdrop of recent attempts by party’s State affairs in-charge Shakeel Ahmad of uniting the party.

Bajwa’s decision to call a meeting on the issue was seen as encroaching upon Jakhar’s right. At earlier occasions too, the two leaders have come face to face while leveling allegations of intruding in each others’ territory.

When contacted, Jakhar feigned ignorance on Bajwa’s invite, and refused to comment. Conversely, party chief maintained that the move is under his purview.
