Published on:

Maintaining that Bhakhra Main line carries huge potential which needs to be tapped, Punjab Power and New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar on Tuesday said that the state would put forward a demand before the Central Government to establish small hydro project of 65 Megawatt (MW) on the same.

Kangar, in a review meeting of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), said that he would also demand incentives from the Central Government regarding the biomass projects to be established in the state.

The capacity of new and renewable energy in the state has increased to 1,600 MW and efforts are on to further multiply its potential, he said after the Minister was apprised of the new and renewable energy projects being run by PEDA and brainstormed on the issues to be raised in the meeting with the Centre on July 3 at Shimla.

Kangar directed the PEDA officials to maximize the reach of new and renewable energy in the state as well as make people aware about its uses.
