Alleging that Phagwara clash, and the violent incidents that followed, were a part of a “larger political conspiracy” to incite sectarian violence ahead of 2019 lok Sabha elections, Punjab unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore requesting him to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
A delegation of state BJP leaders, led by Rajya Sabha MP and state party president Shwait Malik, asked the Governor to “issue a directive to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to call an all-party meeting to deliberate ‘joint initiatives’ for establishing peace and soothing the scarred relationship of all sections of society”.
