Pb bans installation of disinfection tunnels

Punjab Government on Monday banned the installation and use of disinfection tunnels. The State Health and Family Welfare Director, in a letter to all the Deputy Commissioners and Civil Surgeons, has recommended that disinfection tunnels should not be installed and used.

In fact, some districts have set up hypochlorite spray tunnels for disinfection of people.

The cited the advisory issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) stating that spraying disinfectants like alcohol or chlorine all over the body does not kill the virus rather can be harmful for clothes or mucous membranes.

“Hypochlorite solution is recommended for disinfection of surfaces and instruments. Moreover disinfection tunnels will create a false sense of security and people may be diverted from hand wash to disinfection tunnel,” read the letter.
