An amount of `400 crore would have been available for developmental work in each of the 90 Assembly constituencies of Haryana had people of the State paid their electricity dues.
The startling fact was brought to the fore by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar on Saturday as he appealed to the people to pay their electricity bills regularly and added that in case they want to pay the arrears of their electricity bills, these would be accepted in installments.
Addressing a public meeting in Kaithal, Khattar said that had the Power Utilities not suffered losses for non-payment of electricity bills, additional development works of minimum `400 crore would have been undertaken in each of the Assembly Constituencies in the State.
The people, who were attending the public meeting in a large number despite scorching heat, pledged by raising their hands, on the appeal of the Chief Minister, that they would pay their bills regularly.
He announced that to recharge groundwater, boars would be dug close to the ponds in 100 villages in district Kaithal. He also appealed to the people not to waste water, but conserve it. He said that now, the Surajkund would have water throughout the year. The Chief Minister also announced projects worth `135 crore for the area and accepted all the genuine demands put up by the organiser of the rally Rao Surender. Khattar said that he believed in all round development of the State without any bias. He also assured to get
`50 crore Railway Over Bridge constructed on Karnal road and stadiums in ten villages. He also announced to give `10 crore for development works in villages and `5 crore for such works in urban areas.
Khattar criticised the previous Governments for being biased in ensuring all round development of the State. He said that contrary to it, the present government is undertaking development in the true spirit of “Haryana Ek-Haryanavi Ek” and “Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas”.
He said that the present central and the State Governments are checking the menace of corruption with a firm hand and added that prompt action is taken on receipt of such complaints. The government is functioning on the high ideals of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. The aim of the Government is to ensure that the benefit of the schemes must reach the poorest among the poor.
He expressed concern over the issue of sex ratio, saying that one-and-a-half year ago, there were 850 girls as compared to 1,000 boys in the State, but now it has touched the mark of 910 girls as a result of effective implementation of ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign and Acts to check female foeticide. The State Government is taking steps to achieve the sex ratio of 950 girls as compared to 1,000 boys in next six months.
Referring to the recent jay agitation in the State, he cautioned the people against such an unrest, saying that they all would have to remain united to ensure all round development of the State. In case anybody found trying to affect peace and harmony in the State, he would not be spared and invite stern action against himself.
