ThaparUniversityalumnus bags Young Achiever’s Award
Patiala: The 58th Department of Atomic Energy-sponsored Solid State Physics Symposium concluded at Thapar University with Dr Praveen Malik, an alumnus of the School of Physics and Materials Science, Thapar University, figuring among the three recipients of the Young Achiever’s Award instituted by the Board of Research in Nuclear Science.
The other two awards in this category went to Ram Janay Chaudhury of the UGC-Department of Atomic Energy Consortium for Scientific Research, Indore and Shivanand Chaurasia of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai.
Dr Malik, who received the Young Achiever’s Award for his work on dispersed liquid crystal composites for fast switching and high optical response, is planning to file a patent for the materials synthesised and improved by him using nanotechnology. These materials are used in day-to-day life in flat panel TV screens, watches and sensors.
The symposium marked five days of intense scientific deliberations on a wide range of topics in condensed matter physics. About 1,000 researchers from India and abroad participated in the mega scientific event, setting the tone for the development of devices in the field of nano-electronics.
