The Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, PGIMER will hold the 7th Conference of the Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists from 20-22 February. Paediatric anaesthesiologists specialise in taking care of children, babies and newly born who need surgery.

IC Pathak, former Director, PGIMER will inaugurate this Conference on at Bhargava Auditorium, PGIMER. About 400 aspiring and practicing paediatric anesthesiologists from all over India are expected to attend the conference.

India has 440 million children. That is more than the entire population of North America (USA, Canada and Mexico put together). 27 million children are born every year. A substantial fraction of this population has congenital malformations or birth defects, which require surgical correction.

Birth defects account for 8-15 per cent of all deaths of children around the time of birth. Surgery is also needed in children of all ages for other reasons such as accidents, foreign objects in the wind pipe etc.

This conference is designed to provide new and updated knowledge and skills through lectures and workshops conducted by expert practitioners from India and abroad. A workshop on ultrasound guided nerve blocks has been organized to demonstrate procedures conducted to relieve pain due to surgery.
