More than 1.43 lakh consumers in Haryana have opted for Surcharge Waiver Scheme-2016 and Voluntary Disclosure Scheme-2016 up to December 31, 2016.

Following the positive response from the consumers, the State Government has extended the last dates of these schemes to January 31, 2017.

The schemes were reviewed during a meeting convened by Chief Minister Manohar lal, and it was decided that this would be the last opportunity for the consumers to avail the benefits of complete waiver scheme, said an official spokesman..

He said that the Surcharge Waiver Scheme-2016 was launched for such consumers who could not pay their outstanding bill for a long time due to any reason. About 1.08 lakh consumers from across the state paid their dues without surcharge till December 31, 2016 under this scheme.

These included more than 63,000 and 44,000 consumers in all nine circles of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), respectively, said he.

The spokesman said that that Voluntary Disclosure Scheme-2016 was launched for such consumers with tampered or defective meters, or those who tampered with the meters. Under the scheme, 35,000 consumers across the state got their meters replaced without any legal action being taken against them. These included more than 30,000 and 5,000 consumers in all nine circles of UHBVN and DHBVN, respectively, said he.
