Orthonova conducts first-ever ACl reconstruction surgery through computer navigation

Published on:

Orthonova Hospital here has become the first Centre in India to carry out Computer — Navigation Arthroscopic ACl reconstruction surgery. The feat was accomplished when Dr Tanveer Singh Bhutani carried out the highly technical and demanding procedure wherein the new ACl ligament is created using minimum incisions, measuring only 2-3 millimetre.

The patient Ashish, 23, a kabaddi player, tore his ligament while playing kabaddi on the field about two months ago. With the use of computer navigation, Dr Bhutani created a new ACl ligament in the knee of the patient due to which the knee is now stable and the patient will be able to return to active sports soon.

The patient is already walking after surgery and there is no pain or swelling of the joint. This highly cosmetic surgery offers stability and longevity to the knee joint. The use of computer navigation in arthroscopy is unheard of in this part of the world, where most centres are not equipped to do the procedure in the correct anatomical fashion, let alone do it arthroscopically or with navigation.

Dr Bhutani used the latest 4th generation Braun Aesculap navigation system which is installed  at Orthonova hospitals and is routinely used by Dr Harprit Singh, Director of the Hospital, to carry out Computer Navigation Joint Replacement.
