Orange alert in Punjab following fresh inputs on terror attack

Published on:

Receiving fresh inputs regarding possible terror attacks on Wednesday, the Centre has put the Defence bases in and around Punjab,, including Pathankot airbase, on orange alert. As per the fresh Intelligence inputs, a group of terrorists from Pakistan has infiltrated into India.

“The inputs were received by forces today morning after which they are taking all precautions to protect the Defence bases,” said a senior Central Government official, adding the bases were on high alert a few days ago, but the alert levels were brought down a couple of days later.

An ‘orange’ warning stands for “alert”, and authorities are expected to “be prepared”. Besides Punjab Defence bases and Pathankot airbase, an orange alert has also been sounded for Jammu airbases after the monitoring of the terrorists’ movements by the intelligence agencies.

The orange alert is the second-highest level of alert second only to red alert which, if issued, would entail closing of schools and restriction on movements in airbases.

“Senior officers are reviewing security arrangements round the clock to tackle the threat,” senior Punjab Police official said.

There have been reports of a possible terror attack on major Defence facilities since August 5 when the Centre moved to abrogate Article 370 that granted a special status to Jammu & Kashmir.

Another drone from Pak spotted in Ferozepur

Ferozepur: Another drone from Pakistan side was spotted in Ferozepur district on Monday. The Border Security Forces (BSF) officials said that the drone was sighted at Hazara Singh Wala in Ferozepur district on October 14.

To deal with the intrusion of drones from the Pakistani side, the BSF is all set to purchase the ground-based anti-drone system which would have jammers and sensors amongst other features and will have a 360-degree surveillance system. The anti-drone system will be able to work day and night and will detect multiple drones at a time.

There has almost been intrusion every day by drones sent by Pakistan to India. These drones are reportedly being used to transport arms and ammunition to the country.

Only last month, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had urged the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure necessary action to stop incidents of Pakistan-origin drones being used for dropping consignments of arms and ammunition in the State.
