In the wake of intense infighting in the ruling Congress with a section of legislators, including four Cabinet Ministers, raising the demand to replace the Chief Minister, the opposition parties on Friday raised the demand for floor test.
A delegation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs on Friday met the Governor VP Singh Badnore challenging the Capt Amarinder Singh-led Government to prove its majority. At the same time, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal asked the Chief Minister to be ready to face a ‘no-confidence motion’ in the forthcoming assembly session.
“Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh should be ready to face a no-confidence motion in the forthcoming assembly session as he has lost the confidence of a majority of his Ministers and legislators and did not have any right to remain in his chair,” said Sukhbir.
Meanwhile, the AAP delegation, maintaining that the Capt Amarinder Government was in minority, demanded from the Governor to convene a special session of the Punjab Assembly, directing Capt Amarinder to prove majority in the House. AAP leaders urged the Government to dissolve the present Government immediately if the Chief Minister evades proving his majority in next seven days.
