Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh said that the Akali-BJP Government in Punjab had lost all the moral right to continue as it had no clue as what was happening in the State.
Expressing sorrow over the death of RSS leader, Capt Amarinder said that the murderous attack on him reflected the failure of the government to protect the life of people.
“Brig Gagneja's killing is only one in a series as earlier the Namdhari Mata Chand Kaur was shot dead. later, there was a murderous attack on Sant Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale and before that there were incidents of sacrilege and the government is totally clueless,” he said.
The former chief minister said that the situation and circumstances in Punjab today are such that no Punjabi was feeling safe as the Badals had given up on governance and it was better to sack this goverment", he said, adding, the "sooner it was done the better it will be".
Questioning the BJP's silence over what is happening in Punjab today, he said: “I am shocked that they (the BJP leaders) have not been moved even by the murder of the one of their senior colleagues…Their silence amounts to complicity.”
Also condoling the death of senior RSS functionary and describing Gagneja as an outstanding human being with high moral values, former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar lashed out at the Badal government.
“There is a total collapse of law and order, criminals move freely while law abiding citizens live in fear of gang wars and shootouts — these shameless Badals don’t care they have 1,000-plus police for their security and still ask for more security,” said Brar.
In a sharp attack on the government, he drew comparisons with previous incidents of high profile shootings saying, “This government is solely responsible for every case from the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and Quran Sharif and murder of Mata Chand Kaur to the attack on Sant Dhandrianwale and now while Gagneja fought for his life in a hospital his killers still roam free because in all these cases they have clear political patronage and protection of the Badal Government who use these elements to stir up trouble to deflect real issues.”
Expressing grief, AAP’s Punjab convenor Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi termed it as the “failure of Punjab Government and the Police”.
He said that although ideology of Gagneja was different of AAP but his services for the society cannot be ignored.
“law and order situation in the state has gone from bad to worst. The everyday killings in broad daylight expose the hollow claims of Punjab being one of the safest state in the country,” said Ghuggi adding that due to the failure of Punjab police, Mata Chand Kaur of Namdhari sect was killed inside the Dera, and the police have failed to catch the killers till date.
Ghuggi said that Punjab government itself is protecting the bad elements in the state. He also criticized Punjab government for failing in taking action against the attacker of Sant Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale.
