More than a year after a 24-year-old African student Yannick Nizhanga was brutally beaten and went into coma, Jalandhar local court on Thursday sentenced 10-year of rigorous imprisonment to all seven accused involved in the attack.

The seven accused, all from well-connected families, including a son of a senior police officer Romi Uppal—a key accused in the attack, were arrested only after media highlighted the issue.

Yannick Nihangaza, a BSc Computers, First Year student at Jalandhar’s lovely professional University, was going to a party on April 22 night last year when he was stoned, severely beaten and left on the roadside. Strangers took him to hospital and he was in coma for nearly three months after the assault.
