A leisure drive with school friends, all in their 20s, turned into a deadly road accident here on Saturday, as a student lost his life while four others sustained serious injuries after their car lost control and collided with a tree, said police.

Meanwhile, police have not ruled out the possibility if the driver of the car and other were drunk or not, however investigating officials are waiting for the viscera report, said Varinder Singh, investigating officer, PS-26.

The deceased has been identified as Aaditya Singla (18), a resident of Sector-21, while the condition of four others, identified as Varinderjeet, Swarnjeet, Rishabh and Manjeet, is said to be critical. The boys went to a club in IT Park at Manimajra and met with the accident while they were returning home, said sources in police.

The incident took place at around 1:15 am when Aaditya along with his friends was driving their car from Hira roundabout towards AP roundabout. Swarnjeet Singh, who was driving the car, lost control of the vehicle and a front tier of the car burst out. After the tier burst, the car collided with a tree.

Sources in the police said that the driver and his co-passenger sustained injuries in the accident as the air bags, in front and sides of the car saved them in the accident. However, Aaditya and two others, sitting on the rear seat, sustained serious injuries.

The incident was reported to the local police and a police team rushed them to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), where Aaditya was declared brought dead by the doctors on duty. The doctors have said that the deceased died due to head injuries. The other victims were referred to the GMSH sector-16.

However instead of taking them to GMSH, the families of victims rushed them to Fortis hospital at Mohali. Sources claimed that the three boys, sitting on rear seat of the car, were not wearing seat belts.

However, the family of deceased has alleged negligence by the police in taking prompt actions in the matter. “The injured persons were not rushed to the PGIMER soon after police received information about the accident. But the officials said that victims will be rushed to the hospital only after their senior officials will reach at the accident spot,” said Ankush, uncle of deceased.
