Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Friday said that the issue of burning a person by pouring petrol at the farmers' agitation is very serious and one accused has been arrested in the murder case.

On the basis of the statement of the brother of the deceased, the police has started its investigation to nab the accused. Strict action will be taken against those guilty in this case. No one will be allowed to indulge in such violent acts, Vij said while talking to the mediapersons.

42-year-old Mukesh, a resident of Kasar village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district had succumbed to burn injuries in the wee hours of Thursday and his relatives had alleged that he was set on fire by four men who are part of the farmers’ protest against three central farm laws at the Tikri border.

Only a day before, the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue of farmers' agitation and apprized him about the current situation. After the meeting, the Chief Minister had said that the inappropriate incidents, especially against women, are very worrying at the farmers' agitation. These incidents are being opposed locally as well, he had said. Commenting on the issue, Anil Vij said that the reality is that the farmers' movement is no longer in the hands of the farmers' leaders. They have given assurances several times while sitting at the table with the officials, but their rank and file is not accepting their assurances.

On holding talks with the farmers, he said that the government is making constant efforts to hold talks with the farmers and the doors of the government are always open. But they (farmers) do not accept anything. In the past, we had sent teams of the Health Department to protest sites for COVID-19 vaccination and testing, but they refused to undergo testing, he added.

Notably, the protesting farmer unions have announced to organise dharnas at Governor houses across the country on June 26 to mark the completion of seven months of their agitation. A day before, BKU leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni had accused the State Government of trying to defame the ongoing farmers' agitation. He had said that what bigger proof can be there that the farmers' agitation is going on peacefully for the last over seven months despite 500 of our brothers losing their lives.
