Punjab Government has asked all its officers to enrol with National Digital locker System (NDlS) to store and access Government documents online.Governance Reforms department has issued directions to all Administrative Secretaries and Deputy Commissioners for enrolment of all officers and other officials under NDlS, a spokesperson said on Tuesday. The sole aim of digital locker scheme was to place all educational, medical, passport and PAN card details of every Indian in a digital form over a cloud storage system so that citizens could access them from anywhere in the world without having to carry all the documents physically, he said.

The spokesperson said that this concept would be linked to Aadhaar cards enabling citizens to store and access all their government issued documents, right from birth certificate to educational degrees, on the cloud storage system by using their UID numbers.Data would be protected by a one-time password, which would be sent to the user’s mobile via an SMS every time he tries to log in to his digital locker, much in the same manner as online banking transaction, he said. All citizens could start using the digital locker immediately by logging in at http://digitallocker.gov.in/ or http://digilocker.gov.in and http://elocker.gov.in

Talking about the need of NDlS, spokesperson informed that it would make the digitilisation of documents instead of physical form besides enabling digital empowerment of residents with digital locker. It would also make residents enable for e-signing of documents and make them available electronically and online, he said adding that this will be a revolution towards minimising the use for physical documents vis-à-vis anytime, anywhere access to the documents by the residents.
