Moving ahead with changing times, Punjab Government would set up vehicle tracking system in all Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC buses, besides providing free wi-fi and internet facility at every bus stand in the State.

“The public transport system in Punjab would witness a major facelift with vehicle tracking system in all PRTC, PUNBUS and Punjab Roadways buses. Likewise, all bus stands situated in the State would have access to free wi-fi and internet facility,” said the state Transport Minister Razia Sultana after presiding over a meeting with General Managers of PRTC and Punjab Roadways on Tuesday.

She said that vehicle tracking system would give real time position of any bus plying in the State and also it would give additional information like which bus stopped at which bus stand and for how much time.

Similarly, it would also keep tab on the irresponsible working of the drivers like if a driver ignores any bus stop and do not halt bus, officers can monitor such activity of the bus while sitting in the office, she said.

The Minister said that the success of Vehicle Tracking System has been tested in 350 PRTC buses and now this system would be installed in all the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC buses.

“Regional Transport Authority would conduct surprise checking to check the schedule timing of bus routes. Action against the violators of the scheduled timing of bus routes would be taken at the spot. General Manager would assist the RTAs and provide every information during this surprise checking,” she said.

Razia Sultana also reviewed the working of the General Managers and asked them to work tirelessly to increase the revenue of the department so as to bail out the Transport Department from the acute monitory deficit.

She said that lethargy of the General Managers in this regard would attract strict departmental action against them.

Besides she announced that soon, 100 new buses would be added in the PRTC fleet to provide better transportation facility to the citizen.
