A Pandora’s Box has been opened in Haryana after reservation of 10 per cent was given to several communities, including Jat, Bishnoi, Jat Sikh, Ror and Tyagi in OBC category under ‘special backward classes’ and another 10 per cent reservation to ‘economically backward classes’ in general category.
Now, the Muley Jats from the Muslim community in Haryana, have sought reservation from the State Government.
Justice KC Gupta (Retd), chairman of Haryana Backward Classes Commission (HBCC) told The Pioneer that several representatives of Muley Jat community have approached the commission and requested for reservation under the backward classes.
“We have got applications from this community and after getting green signal from the State government, we have started survey on the issue of giving them reservation,” said Gupta.
He added that there were more than 50,000 Mule Jats in Haryana’s Mewat, Fatehabad, Gurgaon, Hissar, Karnal, Panipat and Ambala districts and the commission was verifying the facts after meeting people of this community district-wise.
“We have covered more than 50 per cent people of this community. On May 6 and 7 we are going to Gurgaon and Faridabad, respectively, to get other information regarding this community,” added Gupta.
Muley Jats are Muslim converts from the Jat community of North India.
