'Not reasonable to take decision on Punjab waters using old data'

As the two neighbouring States of Punjab and Haryana are fighting it out on the Satluj Yamuna link (SYl) canal issue, the newly appointed Punjab Congress president Sunil Kumar Jakhar on Sunday said that it was “not reasonable to take decision today on Punjab waters on years back data”.

The two States virtually engaged into a war of words over the contentious issue of sharing river waters at the Northern Zonal Council meeting held at Chandigarh on Friday. While Punjab claimed that the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had asked two States to develop a consensus to resolve the contentious issue through “dialogue”, Haryana refused any such move maintaining that the matter is sub-judice.

At the same time, he made it clear that the Congress Government would not be revengeful but people playing with the public money will be put in the court of law. “The State Government will not adopt the vindictive attitude but will not spare any accused playing with the money of people in any project of the State and adopt the legal measures to punish them,” he said.

He added that the Government will expose the fake seed traders.

Jakhar also maintained that the Congress party’s aim would be to enhance the honour and trustworthiness of its workers.
