Not party workers' clash but a planned attack to kill me, says Ashok Tanwar

Amid the escalated infighting in Haryana Congress party following an attack on him, State party chief Ashok Tanwar on Wednesday alleged that the incident was not a party workers’ clash but a planned attack to kill him.

Referring to October 6 violent clash between his and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s supporters, Tanwar while talking to the media in New Delhi claimed that it was a planned attack on him.

Without naming anyone, he said that everybody knows who was behind the conspiracy of the attack on me. I demand the party high command to take strict action against the culprits, added Tanwar.

Notably, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has appointed  former Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to  probe the incident of assault on Ashok Tanwar.

The veteran Congress leader has summoned Haryana Congress leaders to Delhi on October 18 to hold meeting on the issue. Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Tanwar are also expected to attend the meeting. Shinde will also meet Congress legislative party leader Kiran Chaudhry separately to discuss the issue.

Following the incident, Tanwar supporters had last week met incharge of Haryana party affairs Kamal Nath and demanded ouster of Hooda and his supporters from the party. His supporters are also protesting in various parts of Haryana and burning effigy of Hooda. Hooda’s photographs were also removed from the party office in Hisar on Tuesday.

Hooda, meanwhile, had met party’s vice president Rahul Gandhi to give his clarification on the clash and had termed the incident as a scuffle between party workers.

On October 6, Tanwar had sustained injuries during a violent clash between his and Hooda’s supporters in New Delhi. The clash which also injured more than a dozen Congress workers had taken place during Congress’ vice president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Bhairon temple to end his month-long Kisan Yatra.

Tanwar, who had received head and spine injuries in the clash, was discharged from the Ganga Ram Hospital two days back.
