Sunny Deol or Sunny Leone”, no one can stop Congress’ “aandhi” (storm) in Punjab, declared Congress’ candidate from Hoshiarpur Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal on Friday while taking a dig at the BJP’s decision to field Bollywood actor Sunny Deol from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat.
“The Narendra Modi government has failed miserably. They (BJP) can’t find candidates even for three seats in Punjab. They have fielded Sunny Deol in Gurdaspur. The BJP can bring Sunny Deol or Sunny Leone but no one will be able to stand before this aandhi,” said Dr Raj Kumar while addressing a gathering in the constituency.
He said that Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh would ensure Congress’ victory in all 13 seats in Punjab and make Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister.
Notably, the BJP had announced Sunny Deol’s candidature from Gurdaspur, the seat actor late Vinod Khanna won in 2014, soon after he joined the party on April 23. He filed his nomination papers the next day, and has been campaigning since, conducting massive road-shows attracting an enormous gathering.
In his first electoral battle, Sunny is facing Punjab Congress president and sitting MP Sunil Jakhar, who won the seat in 2017 bye-election following death of the sitting MP Vinod Khanna.
The Gurdaspur seat, in 2014, was won by yesteryear actor Vinod Khanna on the BJP ticket, who had also represented the seat thrice. Sunny’s father and yesteryears’ star Dharmendra had represented the Bikaner Lok?Sabha seat from 2004 to 2009.
