No Punjab commitment on museum yet

Published on:
Punjab Government’s State level function on Shaheed Udham Singh’s martyrdom on Monday was marked by the previous SAD-BJP Government’s bashing, with no promises by the Congress Minister or legislators who attended the event.
Even as the State Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot was the chief guest at the function, with atleast four legislators too participating besides scores of Congress leaders, no major announcement was made on behalf of the Government.
All that Dharamsot could assure was to raise the issue of unfulfilled promise of the erstwhile SAD-BJP regime, to set up Museum in the name of the martyr, with the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh at the earliest.
During his address, Dharamsot lashed out at the previous dispensation saying that tall promises made by the SAD-BJP Government regarding construction of a museum at Sunam in the memory of Shaheed Udham Singh have proved to be hollow.
“SAD only used the names of the martyrs for their narrow political gains and cheated the people by making a false commitment about constructing a memorial of Shaheed Udham Singh at a cost of `12 crores in four acre area,” he said.
“I would bring the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister sooner in order to fulfil the commitments made to the people,” he said.
All the Congress MlAs — Surjit Singh Dhiman (Amargarh), Dalvir Singh Goldy (Dhuri), Raja Amarinder Singh Warring (Muktsar) who is also All India Youth Congress president, and Vijay Inder Singla (Sangrur)—who spoke on the occasion, did not let go any chance to take the previous Government head on.
Dharamsot exhorted the State’s youth to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of Shaheed Udham Singh and other hallowed martyrs and take a pledge for eradication of drugs and other social evils from society.
“The legacy bestowed by the martyrs who sacrificed their lives at the altar of freedom can never be forgotten and the vast crowd gathered today at the State level function organised by the Punjab Government on the occasion of the martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh, has amply proved it also,” he said adding that the future generations would always remember the immense sacrifices made by our great martyrs. Dharamsot also honoured the descendants of Shaheed Udham Singh.
Paying glowing tributes to the martyr, Dharamsot said that Shaheed Udham Singh waited for 21 years to avenge the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh and thus laid the  foundation of the freedom  of the nation.
Congress MlA from Amargarh Surjit Singh Dhiman and Dhuri MlA Dalvir Singh Goldy said that it was because of the sacrifices made by the martyrs that we are living in a free atmosphere.
