Haryana Transport Minister, Ram Bilas Sharma on Friday ruled out privatisation of the Haryana Roadways saying 14 lakh passengers travel in its buses everyday.
Talking to reporters here, Sharma said he had a meeting with the Chief Minister, Manohar lal, and officers of the Transport Department where various issues, including how to provide more facilities to the people, requirement of additional buses on certain routes, cleanliness at bus-stands, and conduct of the bus drivers and the conductors, were discussed.
“We are looking forward to making the Haryana Roadways hold a candle to Mumbai’s Best Bus Service which is ranked the best in the country”, he said.
Sharma said the State Government planned to declare vehicles having seating capacity of six persons legal in order to provide self-employment opportunities to the unemployed youth. Besides, permission would be granted for running vehicles with seating capacity of up to 12 passengers, at affordable rates. Soon applications would be invited for these, he added.
The Transport Minister said that action would be taken against all illegal vehicles plying on the roads in the state.
Asked about the 910 private permits issed in Haryana, Sharma said that the youth of state had been operating these vehicles by constituting committees. Soon, a meeting would be held with these committees to do away the irregularities and ensure that better service is provided to the people.
