IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) on Sunday decided to undertake consolidation measures based on quality parameters.

After the varsity took strong and strict steps in this regard, its Academic Council has also unanimously endorsed the approach of consolidation of technical education.

The university’s academic council, in its 50th meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and Technical Education Secretary Kahan Singh Pannu, has decided against introducing any more courses or setting up new colleges in the current academic year. “Academic council has decided to focus only on technical education and decided to review the non-technical part time courses started in recent years,” said IKG PTU spokesperson. Spokesperson said the Council appreciated the steps for promotion of qualitative improvement in technical education by starting random inspection of the affiliated institutes, which would only be conducted by University’s faculty.

“IKG PTU has more than 80 PhD faculty members which will work to maintain quality education standards at main campus as well as affiliated institutions,” said the spokesperson.

Academic council advised all affiliated colleges to apply for NAAC accreditation in a time bound manner as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) norms, said the spokesperson. In a significant development, the University has decided to conduct “Golden Chance Examination”, but only at University’s main campus.

It had also decided to conduct a study to ascertain the reasons as to why students had to resort to golden chance exam after having availed maximum chances, with a view to take corrective measures in future.
