Patients visiting the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research might get some respite from the gargantuan queues they have to face while collecting a test report, as the concerned authorities have decided to dispense the reports at windows in all the floors of the new OPD from June 12.
Counter number four of the new OPD, from where the test reports of several departments are dispensed, has long queue of patients waiting for their turn to come. At times the patients are made to run from one department to another to get the test report, which is a very tiring job in the sweltering heat. The Pioneer did the story in which it brought forth the plight of the patients spending around four to five hours in long queues to get test reports. The condition of the patients in one of countries premier health care center was getting bad to worst by the day, just to collect a report as the institute has failed to modernise itself, despite funds being allotted for the purpose says the Comptroller and Auditor General Report.
After taking the plight of the patients under consideration, the PGI has added four new counters for dispensing the test reports with immediate effect. The authorities said that test report of all the departments are now available on the internal server of the institute and the patients will now just have to mention their card number on the window to get them. This will not only save the time of the patients but will also stop unnecessary harassment of the patients who visit the tertiary care institute from the far flung areas. Once the PGI starts to dispense the test reports from all the floor in the new OPD, the patients will be no more depended upon the counter number four because they can get their report from any counter by mentioning their card number as it will be available on the internal server.
