Denying the allegations of gang rape of women commuters during the Jat reservation row, Haryana Government on Monday said the miscreants would be made liable to pay the damages they had caused during the protest.

In its status report before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Haryana Government said that it had taken a policy decision to recover the losses due to damage to immovable and movable, public and private, properties from the miscreants.

Appearing before Justice Satish Kumar Mittal and Justice Harinder Singh Sidhu, Haryana Advocate-General Baldev Raj Mahajan placed before the court the details of action taken by the Haryana Government against the miscreants.

He said the authorities had not received any complaint of molestation or sexual assault till now even on the helpline numbers, set up by the district legal service authority.

The copy of the FIR registered on the complaint of a women, who had alleged rape on February 23 near Sukhdev Dhaba on the GT Road was also placed before the Bench. The complainant had alleged that she, along with her daughter, and six-seven other women, were taken to the fields near the dhaba. In this case, the accused include the younger and the elder brother of the complainant’s husband.

Mahajan also placed before the Court three status reports and affidavits by Haryana Director-General of Police Yash Pal Singal and Additional Chief Secretary P.K. Dass.

Referring to the reports, Mahajan said that 1117 FIRs had been register and 147 persons had been arrested at different places throughout the State.

The report said that 30 deaths had been reported due to the stir, and 324 people sustained injuries. The injured include 67 security personnel.

Finding inadequacies in the reports, Justice Mittal observed that it reflected lack of preparedness on part of the officials. Non-recording of statements also indicated callousness.
