A person, not possessing the regular driving license, can not apply for job in Chandigarh Police, as the local police authorities have made it mandatory for recruitment process of UT police personnel. AS Cheema, Deputy Inspector General, UT Police said driving license has been made mandatory in the recruitment process of Chandigarh Police from 2015 onwards.
“It was noticed that many new recruits in Chandigarh Police didn’t know how to drive the vehicles when required in emergency situation, following which it was made mandatory for new applicants to provide a driving license during the time of selection”, said the DIG. “The new recruits will also be given special driving training,” he added. Aiming to increase the number of cops per citizen, the Chandigarh Police Department is likely to recruit nearly 525 police personnel at constable level, during this year. The recruitment process will be initiated in September.
“The extra manpower will help the UT police department in betterment of the law-and-order situation. It would also allow the police to train its front-line officers better,” said Cheema. “As of now, the lack of adequate manpower in the force has been a major concern. The Police Department may start the appointment process for the posts very soon,” he added.
