No consensus on condemnation resolution in Haryana Assembly

Amid continuing uproar over the sarcastic tweets against Jain Muni Tarun Sagar, BJP led Haryana Government on Monday failed to persuade Opposition to support a condemnation resolution and get it passed in the State Assembly.

Haryana Minister Kavita Jain, who moved the condemnation resolution to criticise the tweets by singer-cum-music composer Vishal Dadlani and Congress leader Tehseen Poonawala against Muni Tarun Sagar, failed to even get the support of her own party while the opposition opposed the resolution.

As soon as the resolution was moved by her, the INlD and Congress legislators took a strong exception to the way the House is being conducted.

leader of Opposition and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala went onto say that we don't care what people say outside the Assembly. We have other important issues to discuss in the house, said he.

Soon after, Congress MlA Karan Singh Dalal joined him and said, “Everybody has a right to speak and if we continue discussing this issue, we will also disrespect Muni Tarun Sagar. Dalal even put forth a demand saying that following an address by Jain Muni, an opportunity should also be given to Saints from dalit and Sikh community to address the State MlAs in the Assembly.

Even as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ram Bilas Sharma pushed for passing the condemnation resolution, the Opposition rejected all attempts to add acknowledgement to the resolution.

Taking a strong stand against the resolution, Abhay Singh Chautala said, “We had only accepted the proposal to conduct a session by Tarun Muni in the Assembly but we don't support this resolution.”

Referring to the controversial tweets, Chautala said, “It is not an insult of Haryana Vidhan Sabha... If someone is abusing him (Muni Tarun Sagar) outside the house… What can we doIJ”

Amid commotion, Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar intervened saying that an FIR has been registered in Ambala into the incident and an action would be taken accordingly. The issue should not be stretched, said he.

Following this, the discussion on the issue ended with ruling BJP failing to get passed the condemnation resolution in the assembly.

Preacher Muni Tarun Sagar had on Friday delivered 'Kadve Pravachan' in Haryana Vidhan Sabha on the first day of monsoon session. In his discourse, the first by a religious preacher in Haryana’s legislative history, the Muni had taken potshots at the politicians for their alleged failure to check female foeticide and corruption in the country.

After this, a string of comments by Vishal Dadlani, mocking Jain Guru for appearing nude inside the Haryana Assembly, had sparked off nationwide outrage. Dadlani's tweet mocking the Jain monk had attracted several brickbats from across the social media and political leaders.

Congress leader Tehseen Poonawala had supported Dadlani for his comments. However, Dadlani had later apologised to the Jain monk.

An FIR was registered on Monday against Dadlani and  Poonawalla, for hurting sentiments of Jain community, in Ambala by a Haryana BJP leader.

Opposition raises Mewat

gang rape issue

The Manohar lal Khattar Government in Haryana was severely criticised by the Opposition for failing to maintain law and order situation in the State.

INlD and Congress launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP raising the issue of double murder and gang-rape case in Mewat. The opposition demanded a discussion on the issue and also leveled allegations against the BJP for failing to act against the culprits in the case.

leader of opposition, Abhay Singh Chautala said that the law and order situation is worsening in the state and nothing was done in the case till four days. Congress legislative party leader Kiran Choudhry also pushed for discussion on the law and order situation in Haryana.

Congress’ Karan Singh Dalal and INlD’s Zakir Hussain also alleged that the State Government is trying to save the real culprits in the case.

On this, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal intervened and informed the assembly that four accused involved in the Mewat incident have so far been arrested and the case is further being investigated.

He said that the guilty would not be spared and stern action would be taken against all those involved in this incident.

The Chief Minister then assured that detailed facts related to law and order situation would be tabled in the Assembly on Tuesday and a discussion would also be done.

Five armed men had barged into a house in village Dingerheri in Mewat. The accused had beaten a couple to death, and gang-raped their two nieces. One of the rape victims is a minor. The accused had then fled with valuables including cash, jewellery and a vehicle.

Opposition questions CBI inquiry into Jat agitation

leader of opposition and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala on Friday questioned Haryana Government’s decision to get conducted an inquiry by Central Bureau of Investigation into the cases related to the Jat quota stir in February.

Raising the issue after the question hour, Chautala said that the government should give a reply on the issue that why a CBI inquiry is marked after constituting a judicial commission to probe the violence into the Jat reservation stir.

Following this, the Chief Minister said that a detailed report on this would be put forth the MlAs in the assembly on Tuesday.

Even as the Manohar lal Khattar Government had set up a two-member Commission headed by Justice SN Jha (retd) toinquire into the conspiracy angle to February’s Jat reservation stir, the State Government has now decided to go for a CBIprobe in some cases related to the agitation.

The State Government has recommended the CBI probe into the incident of arson and violence at properties of state Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu in Rohtak during Jat stir. The Government has already sent a request to the Centre in this regard.

Rohtak was the epicentre of the Jat agitation for a quota in jobs and education in which over 30 lives were lost and property worth hundreds of crores destroyed. Several government and private buildings were damaged by protesters, including Capt Abhimanyu's palatial house.
