Punjab local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday ordered that no building plan with regard to Zirakpur Municipal Council is to be passed pending the magisterial enquiry into Peer Muchalla building collapse.
Sidhu, taking serious cognizance of the matter related to recently-collapsed under-construction building at Peer Muchhalla in Zirakpur belonging to the Imperial Gardens/Pushp Empire within Zirakpur MC limits, also imposed a ban on the excavation of basements.
Besides, the empty buildings of Pushp Empire would also be sealed, said Sidhu while adding that the decision pertaining to the buildings, where people are living, would be taken separately later on but there is no need for people to panic as people's interest would not be harmed.
Sidhu added that the sphere of the probe team in the case has been widened to include Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, local Government director Karnesh Sharma, Chief Engineer (Buildings and Roads), Punjab Chief Architect, representative of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local Government Department’s Chief Vigilance Officer and a representative of Punjab Engineering College (PEC).
The team would submit its report by April 27, he added.
