Efforts of Chandigarh police administration to help their junior officials become disciplined and courteous seems to have become a futile exercise.Though the police administration conducted a three-day workshop on ‘attitudinal change’ for its officials in the month of July, the efforts have hardly become fruitful.
Records of the Police Complaint Authority (PCA) are testimony to the fact. A total of 14 cases of rude behavior and attitudinal problem have been registered against UT police officials within a month of the workshop conducted by Chandigarh police.
A senior police official said that the main motive of the workshop conducted by the police administration in July was for inculcating a sense of discipline, integrity, and responsibility towards policing activities of the police force.
Apart from this, during the workshop, police personnel were also briefed about the attitudinal development and the ways to improve upon about the same.
The art of communication and the changes to be imbibed by the police force were also taught to the police personnel. The three-day programme on Attitudinal change for Chandigarh Police personnel was conducted under the guidance of RP Upadhyaya, IGP of UT and supervision of RS Ghumman, SSP, Operations & Training.
However, the number of complaints received against the UT cops shows that the learning in the workshop has failed to make any impact on the cops.
In a complaint to Police Complaint Authority, a woman Pooja Devi, resident of colony number — 4 alleged that a Sub-Inspector of motor works police station of Industrial Area Phase-1, Chandigarh did not acted appropriately on her complaint and in return misbehaved with her.
Earlier this month, Satinder Singh, Councilor of ward number- 18 complained to IGP against another Sub Inspector, Investigation Officer for Illegal detention of Mohit Sharma resident of sector-30, Chandigarh. Satinder Singh alleged in his complaint that the SI has not been cooperating in the matter and also misbehaved.
