Cracking down on transnational terror networks targeting Punjab, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three accused in the December 2024 grenade attack on a police post in SBS Nagar district. The attack, which occurred on the intervening night of December 1-2, has been traced to a broader conspiracy orchestrated by the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), the central probing agency revealed on Sunday.
The three accused — Yugpreet Singh alias Yuvi Nihung, Jaskaran Singh alias Shah, and Harjot Singh alias Jot Hundal — all residents of Rahon village in SBS Nagar, have been booked under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosive Substances Act, and other penal sections. According to the NIA, the trio acted at the behest of foreign-based KZF handlers who provided logistical and financial support to execute the attack.
The investigation found that Jagjit Singh Lahri alias Jagga, a UK-based KZF operative, recruited Yugpreet Singh through a British contact, radicalized him via encrypted messaging platforms, and transferred over Rs 4.36 lakh using a Canada-based terror funding network. Yugpreet later brought Jaskaran and Harjot into the plot, forming the core execution team for the grenade attack at the Asron police post.
The NIA has also launched a parallel probe against KZF’s self-styled chief and designated individual terrorist Ranjit Singh alias Neeta, Jagga Miapur, Hari Singh (based in the UK), and other unidentified foreign operatives. The agency suspects this module was planning further attacks on security forces, key installations, and possible targeted killings in Punjab.
In a separate but related development, the NIA, on June 12, raided 15 locations across Punjab and Haryana linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) — another proscribed Khalistani terror outfit — in connection with a similar grenade attack on a police post in Amritsar in January 2025. Raids were carried out in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Kapurthala, Rupnagar, and Haryana’s Sirsa district, leading to the seizure of incriminating material including mobile phones, digital devices, and documents.
The NIA, which officially took over the SBS Nagar case in April and re-registered it as RC-09/2025/NIA/DLI, said investigations into both the KZF and BKI networks are ongoing and aimed at completely dismantling their terror infrastructure.
