Newborn abandoned in a Pangoora

Published on:

A newborn girl was abandoned by her natural parents at Pangoora (cradle) on Monday. After the baby was found, she was taken to a hospital for preliminary examination, where all the results were found to be satisfying.

District Red Cross Society, Amritsar in collaboration with District Administration, Amritsar has launched a cradle scheme from January 2008. A cradle (Pangoora) has been installed at the main gate of Red Cross along with an electric bell. Parents who are unable to rear their newborn due to one reason or the other can put it in the cradle. So far District Red Cross Society has received 74 children out of which 5 are males and 69 are females. The girl child, found on Monday, has been shifted to Shishu Grah Trust, Nari Niketan at Nakodar Road Jalandhar.

Whenever a newly born is abandoned in the Pangoora, helper on duty after getting information informs the officials of the Red Cross Society or any other employee who is available there. The child is immediately shifted to nearby Hospital for medical care. Thereafter the child is shifted to one of the foster home approved by the government, for adoption. Dr Tarundeep Kaur, IRS, Chairperson Hospital Welfare Section, Red Cross Amritsar informed the media regarding this Pangoora scheme. She urged the general public to pay due regards to the female child and not to throw them in dustbins or in fields. As they play important role in today’s society.
