Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore on Monday approved the names of Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Professor BS Ghuman as the Vice-Chancellors of State’s reputed Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, and Punjabi University, Patiala.
Ghuman is a noted educationist with 35 years of teaching experience. Presently, he is dean, faculty of arts and founder coordinator of Research Promotion Cell, Canadian Studies Centre, Centre for Emerging Areas in Social Sciences at the Panjab University Chandigarh.
Sandhu has 25 years of teaching and 18 years of administrative experience. He has also served as acting director NAAC. He is also a member of all important institutions in higher education committee in capacity of secretary, UGC.
Badnore has selected the two it of the names recommended by the state government. For the first time, the government had invited applications for the posts against the practice of Chief Minister handpicking his men and appointing them as VCs.
A total of 219 applications were received, out of which 31 were interviewed by the screening-cum-selection committee.
