New land acquisition bill not in farmers’ interest: Hooda

Published on:

The Congress leaders in Haryana led by former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda will meet Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to urge him not to give his assent to the land acquisition amendment bill passed by the State Assembly.

Announcing this, Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday said that with the passage of this bill, the State Government has delivered another blow to the rights of the farmers.  He said that the purpose of the new law is to hand over the land of farmers to the capitalists without consent. The government has now abolished all the rules like getting consent of 70 percent farmers, giving notice under Section-4, Section-6 and giving residential plots with compensation in lieu of land. Now any collector can acquire their land overnight, without the consent of the farmers, he added.

“What was the hurry of passing this Bill when the opposition was demanding that this should be sent to the Select Committee for scrutiny?” he questioned.  The party leaders will meet the Governor and urge him not to give his approval to this anti-farmer legislation, Hooda added.

Haryana Assembly had on Tuesday passed The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Haryana Amendment) Bill, 2021. The Congress had staged a walkout in protest of the passage of the Bill.

NO INFIGHTING IN CONGRESS, ONLY DIFFERENCE OF OPINION

Amid factional feud in Haryana Congress, Hooda on Thursday claimed that there is no infighting in the state party unit and only difference of opinion.  When asked whether the luncheon hosted by him was a “show of strength”, the senior Congress leader while denying it said that the lunch was organized as he could not meet the party leaders for over four months due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Hooda had hosted a lunch for over 250 party leaders at his residence here on Wednesday. AICC Haryana in charge Vivek Bansal, his bete noires state party chief Kumari Selja and Kiran Chaudhary, current MLAs, former MLAs and MPs among other party leaders had attended the lunch.

Responding to a question related to his rivalry with Kumari Selja, Hooda claimed that there is no infighting in Congress and only difference of opinion.

Reacting to the reports that his loyalists MLAs have demanded ouster of Selja and his elevation as state party chief, Hooda denied having any information related to the issue.
