Taking cue from Surat-based diamond merchant, all that the Punjab Government offered to 219 newly-appointed headmasters is their choice of posting as Diwali gift.

Surat-based diamond firm Hari Krishna Exports, in Diwali bonanza, has given

Rs4 lakh each to 1,268 employees, including the cleaning staff, to buy cars, flats and jewellery costing the company Rs50 crore.

Only a day before, Punjab Government has also done away with the provision of transferring the Class-II, III and IV employees in any civic body of Punjab, terming it as a Diwali gift for them.

Handing over the appointment letters to the 219 headmasters appointed under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikhsha Abhiyaan (RMSA) on Tuesday, the Punjab education department has posted them at the stations as per their choice, “making the festival of lights brighter for their families”.

“The education department, for the first time, allotted the station to the headmaster adopting transparent online procedure,” said State Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema.

Elaborating the procedure, he said: “All the newly-appointed headmasters were called for allotting stations. All the vacant stations were flashed on a big screen, and they were asked to give their preferences against the vacant station flashing on the screen. The stations were allotted at the spot as per the request of the headmasters.”

Cheema, while extending warm greetings to the headmasters on the occasions of Diwali, also exhorted them to discharge their duties of new assignment with full dedication and sincerity and become catalyst in making education system employment oriented.
