Haryana’s new education policy 2015 is likely to include detention policy for students, both marks and grading system, restarting the board exams in class VIII, separate chapters for moral and spiritual education of students among other things.

These suggestions were put forth by various stakeholders including educationists, NGOs and officers of Haryana Education Department at the State-level consultative meeting organised by the Department under the aegis of Union Ministry of Human Resource Development at Panchkula on Friday.

The State-level consultative meeting to formulate the new education policy for the State was organised on the 99th birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.

Chief Minister Manohar lal who was chief guest on the occasion, while referring to the new education policy, said that it was for the first time after Independence that an education policy is being prepared from bottom to top and the suggestions for the same had been taken at village level, then block level, district level and finally at State-level.

He said that the draft of the new education policy of the state would be sent to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, and expressed hope that it would prove to be useful in finalising the education policy of the country.

Manohar lal said that the word development was not confined only to the construction of buildings, roads and other infrastructure, but also included human development.

He added that only reading, writing and mathematics is not education, and unless moral values are included in it, it has no relevance.

The Chief Minister lamented that during the last 68 years of Independence, the people of the country did not get the direction which they truly deserve. But, now the BJP Government is taking the country in the right direction with the support and cooperation of people.

Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said that the new education policy is being prepared at national level to lay emphasis on intellectual, mental, spiritual and physical development of children and providing better environment in government schools.

In this policy, main focus has been laid on true knowledge, eligibility and employment, said he.

The Minister informed that suggestions have been taken from lakhs of people in 6,072 villages, 126 blocks and 21 districts for this New Education Policy.

As many as 2.5 lakh people gave their suggestions in these meetings. These suggestions were uploaded from time to time on the website of Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, and in today’s meeting, suggestions were invited from educationists. These suggestions would be compiled and sent to the Central Government, he added.

Ram Bilas said that while the government spent Rs 28,000 per student on education in government schools, only Rs 16,000 were spent on the education of a student in private schools.

He also assured the Chief Minister that the Education Department would make concerted efforts to change the mindset of parents towards the government schools.

The Education Department on Friday gathered the suggestions from various stakeholders and likely to compile the draft of new education policy in a couple of days.

Earlier, the Chief Minister released a poster of the new education policy of Haryana.
