The issue of non-provisioning of sewerage lines in Naya Gaon has reached Punjab and Haryana High Court. Seeking directions for the State of Punjab and authorities concerned, a resident Krishan Yadav, in his plea has said that despite giving repeated assurance the local Government has not yet started the work of laying sewerage lines in the vicinity, where a population of more than one lakh is living in miserable conditions.
In the petition filed through Counsel Chanderhas Yadav, Petitioner has said that residents of the area generally belonged to the lower middle class, including class third and fourth employees of the High Court, Civil Secretariat of Punjab and Haryana, Vidhan Sabha, PGI and PEC etc.
The petitioner had approached the High Court earlier also and the Punjab Government in its affidavit had stated that the work of laying sewerage pipelines would be completed within a year and sewerage treatment plant would be established within two years.
The petitioner claimed that the residents have time and again raised their demand for basic amenities in the area with the concerned authorities and their public representatives but to no avail. The counsel for the petitioner contended that despite undertaking to lay the sewerage lines with in a year, the work was not taken up till date. He told the court that due to lackadaisical approach of the local government department, the land marked for sewerage treatment plant had been encroached upon and some illegal occupants of the land had even constructed houses on the land meant for STP.
The Division Bench of Justice S S Saron and Justice liza Gill has adjourned the matter for July 25.
