Burying of the hatchet by two arch rivals — AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal’s apology to SAD leader Bikram Majithia — on Friday gave Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu an opportunity to settle his own scores.
launching a three-pronged attack, he not only targeted Majithia and Kejriwal, but also put pressure on his own Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. For the purpose, Sidhu practically carried out a post-mortem of the report submitted by the State Government’s Special Task Force (STF) to bring alive the darker side of Punjab politics and underscore Majithia’s alleged role in a drug case.
Sidhu, accompanied by his wife and former MlA Navjot Kaur, went on to demand Majithia’s “immediate arrest” on the basis of the STF report.
Sidhu told that he had personally urged the Chief Minister to initiate action against Majithia, “40 MlAs have also met the Chief Minister” and had also written to him. “Now, we have enough proof and evidence against Majithia...We did not speak till we have enough evidence,” he said. The Sidhu couple claimed that STF, in its report, has “found evidence” against Majithia in the drug trade, and the government would soon act on the same.
“Punjab Government cannot ignore the STF report which pointed out the role of Majithia in the drug trade,” he said.
“The STF has clearly stated that there is substantial evidence of the role of Bikram Singh Majithia which needs to be probed. Punjab Government cannot ignore the facts,” he stated.
