Navjot Sidhu's wife too resigns from BJP

Published on:

BJP MlA Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, on Saturday resigned from the BJP primary membership.

Kaur, who represents Amritsar East constituency in the Punjab Assembly, sent a one line resignation to the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership. The party has accepted her resignation.

Navjot Kaur's resignation was expected after Sidhu, a former BJP MP, left the saffron party and floated his own "Awaaz-e-Punjab" front. Sidhu is joined by the Bains brothers — MlA Balwinder Singh Bains and MlA Simarjeet Singh Bains, along with expelled SAD legislator Pargat Singh.

His forum has also invited other political players who are not aligned to BJP, SAD, Congress or AAP. For weeks, he was in talks to join the Aam Aadmi Party but Sidhu later said they had fallen through because AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal wants "only yes men."

Sidhu had also said the Delhi Chief Minister had asked him not to contest the Punjab elections, offering to make his wife a Minister instead if AAP won in Punjab. He had also turned down an invitation from the Congress to join that party.

His wife, Navjot Kaur had been raising her voice against Akali-BJP Government since the past couple of years. Kaur had, first, announced her resignation from BJP on April 1, 2016. However, she did not officially quit from the party.

later, she had clarified that she has still not resigned from the BJP. Both Kaur and Sidhu had wanted BJP to snap ties with Akali Dal.
