Natl lok Adalat on Dec 6 for speedy disposal

To dispose old cases with the objective of reducing pendency of cases in the courts, a National lok Adalat will be held on December 6 at all levels from the Supreme Court to sub-divisional courts throughout India.

Punjab legal Services Authority spokesperson said that fresh institution cases can also be taken up in National lok Adalat.

“Any litigant can get his case fixed for disposal in lok Adalat by moving an application in the court where his or her case is pending or before chief judicial magistrate or Secretary, District legal Services Authority, in each district of Punjab. Applicant can get more information by dialling a toll free helpline no 1968,” he said.

He said that no court fee is required for fixing a case in the lok Adalat. “The court fee already affixed in a case is returned back to the litigant once his case is disposed in the lok Adalat,” he said.

Spokesperson said that many cases can be taken up in lok Adalat including criminal compoundable cases, negotiable instrument cases under section 138, matrimonial or family courts cases, labour disputes, land acquisition cases, civil cases-rent, bank recovery, easementary rights, debit recovery tribunal cases, revenue cases, MNREGA, electricity and water bills, cases relating to sales tax, income tax, services matters relating to pay and allowances and retiral benefits, forest act cases, railway claims, disaster compensation, pre litigation matters, miscellaneous appeals, criminal appeals, among others.

“The award passed in the lok Adalat cannot be challenged in an appeal or revision,” he added.
