The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association on Sunday decided to “abstain from work” on Monday following a case was registered against the senior advocate SK Garg Narwana.
The case was registered against Narwana at Panchkula on Saturday, following which the Bar Association had convened an emergency meeting on Sunday.
The Bar Association has requested all the district bars to stand in unity with the High Court Bar Association.
The executive committee of the Bar Association, in a resolution passed unanimously, strongly condemned the act of the Haryana Police, especially the Panchkula police, in registering an FIR against the senior member of the Bar.
The resolution said that after the perusal of the FIR, the Bar Association felt that the same had been registered in most casual and callous manner by the investigating agency for the reasons best known to it.
The resolution added that the FIR was required to be forthwith cancelled against Narwana, as representing a client was no offence under law.
Further, the registration of FIR at Panchkula, on the face of it, was without jurisdiction as the land in question was situated in Zirakpur, Punjab. The resolution added that the Bar Association stood in solidarity with Narwana and would not allow the police to overreach the law in completely arbitrary and illegal manner.
