Wrestler Narsingh Yadav, who tested positive in a dope test and was subsequently disqualified for the Rio Olympics, on Wednesday filed an FIR at the Sonepat Police Station naming two fellow wrestlers and persisted with his demand for a CBI probe alleging that someone spiked his food that caused him to fail his dope test conducted by NADA.
Narsingh, India’s entry in the men’s 74-kg freestyle wrestling category in the upcoming Rio Olympics, was tested positive for anabolic steroid methandienone that helps build muscle and enhance performance.
The two accused named in the FIR by the wrestler is alleged to have contaminated the food meant for him at the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Sonipat centre in Haryana.
Sonipat Deputy Inspector General (DIG) HS Doon told the media police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy). The matter was being investigated. Strict action will be taken if anyone was found to be behind this, said he.
Narsingh had been picked ahead of wrestler Sushil after he won the quota place with a bronze medal in the World Championships.
Meanwhile, Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said the State Government had no control over the activities of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre at Rai in Sonipat even as the State police had been asked to complete its probe into the doping scandal surrounding wrestler Narsingh Yadav.
He said since an FIR had been lodged into the matter, we have asked the Haryana police to go into the depth of the case and find out the truth. The police would take appropriate action, including filing the case in a local court. The State Government has already asked the police to complete its probe “as soon as possible”, added he
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Narsingh, already under provisional suspension for failing a June 25 dope test, has also flunked the second test done on both his ‘A’ and ‘B’ samples taken on July 5.
