Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday said there is clear cut wave in favour of the NDA in the country and Narendra Modi will form the next Government in Centre which will usher a new era of development for Punjab, especially the border areas.
Badal, who was addressing a election rally in favour of SAD-BJP candidate Arun Jaitley here, said Jaitley will be the voice of the people of Punjab and border district of Amritsar in Parliament as he sought votes for him.
During the rally, a senior Congress leader in the area and former Transport Minister Parminder Singh Sandhu joined the Shiromani Akali Dal. Badal welcomed Sandhu and another leader Mohan Singh Matia in the Akali Dal and honoured them.Badal targeted the Congress-led UPA in Centre for corruption, scandals and kickbacks pushing the nation's economy backward.
Badal said the Congress is afraid to declare its prime ministerial candidate due to the imminent defeat it is foreseeing in the elections. He made a scathing attack on Congress candidate Captain Amarinder Singh, saying he was reluctant to contest but was forced by Rahul Gandhi to contest and now was making misleading statements.
He said Captain feels that if he will speak something false 10 times, people will take it as if truth but this will not happen as he cannot fool the people any further. He said captain is no match for Jaitley who is sagacious and intellectual person.
Addressing the rally, Jaitley said the NDA will surpass 272 seats figure in Parliament. He said one after other Congress leaders were shying away from contesting polls, including Amarinder but they were forced to do so by their party president.
Jaitley said people were fed up by the 10 years of UPA rule in Centre and they have made up their mind to route the Congress in the coming elections. He said the UPA failed on all fronts including economy, foreign policy, internal security and how they will make a developed India a power nation in the comity of nations.Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar also came to attend the rally.
Badal recalled the sacrifices made by the Punjabis during the time of Partition of India and during the freedom struggle. He said the Governments in Centre have always discriminated against Punjab. He said during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots the innocents were butchered and the houses of the community members were earmarked to target them and even after the 29 years of the massacre the victims have not got the justice.
Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia targeted Captain, saying by seeing the gathering in the rally, he will further be baffled. He said, “There is every possibility that after his defeat Captain will run away towards Pakistan after crossing the border,” he said.
