Nagra accuses Centre of discriminating with Punjab farmers

Congress MLA and an Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Kuljit Singh Nagra on Monday accused the BJP-led Central Government of adopting the “approach of discrimination” with an aim of harassing the farmers of Punjab.

He said that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is not lifting the old stock of wheat and rice from the godowns.

“Every time, during the tenure of Capt Amarinder Singh led Punjab Government, the procurement process remains smooth. But, to give a setback to the hassle-free procurement, this time, the FCI is not lifting the old stock,” alleged Nagra after giving a start to the procurement of paddy at Sirhind Grain Market along with Congress’ Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr Amar Singh.

Nagra, while interacting with the media, said that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) always claims itself as the guardian of farmers. “So, now the SAD leaders must move ahead for the protest in front of FCI Head Office,” he said adding that the Central Government must complete its duty and ensure the lifting of old stock.
